Local man preserves the Coast’s history by restoring classic boats

Preserving the Coast’s history one boat at a time is the goal for one local man who restores old boats in South Mississippi.

Andy Fountain is the co-owner of Classic Boatworkers and he works to keep the Coast’s history alive by restoring old wooden boats.

Recently Andy and his team restored the Hancock Bank boat that now belongs to the Seafood Museum.

He tells News 25 a lot of history can be found in the form of classic boats and they often times tell the story of our area which was once known as the Seafood Capital of the World. “We are trying to preserve history here and help people out and a lot of it is sentimental to them and there is not many boat builders left to do the work.”

If you have a classic boat that you would like restored you can call Classic Boatworkers at 228-990-9590.
