Local Group Reaches Out to Homeless Veterans

Thursday, many members of the Biloxi community participated in a stand down to serve homeless veterans.

The Department of Veterans Affairs Gulf Coast Veterans Healthcare System partnered with local community-based agencies to serve the area’s homeless veterans. They provided vaccines and other medical services to around 150 veterans.

Eric Oleson, Homeless Program Manager, says, “One, we’re doing outreach, the collaboration with the community, and we’re trying to identify homeless veterans so then we can possibly get them into healthcare and get them into housing.”

The stand down went until 2 p.m. at Hiller Park in Biloxi.
