Local eight-year-old gives back with toy drive for children at USA Children’s Hospital

One local girl is giving back to her friends who are bravely battling illnesses just like her.

Eight-year-old Ansley Gilich was diagnosed with B-Cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia back in March. Since then she’s received treatment at USA Children’s Hospital in Mobile.

For the month of September, in honor of her birthday and Leukemia Awareness Month, Ansley decided to host a toy drive in honor of other kids at the hospital getting treatment there.

With the help of family and community members and organizations, Ansley has collected over 400 toys. Ansley said, “I really want to help them and I want to make them happy with toys so they’ll be happy while they’re going through this and while they’re going through the hospital.”

Ansley’s parents say her prognosis is good and the Ansley Foundation has been created in her honor.

Another blood drive benefit for Ansley will be held on October 30th at the Slavonian Lodge.
