Local church discusses Roe v. Wade ruling
With the overturn of Roe v. Wade, Catholic churches across the country are celebrating the decision.
News 25 visited St. James Catholic Church in Gulfport to meet Father Ryan McCoy about his thoughts on the decision.
Father McCoy says he never thought he’d see the day Roe v. Wade would be overturned, but he says “this is a major step in making sure the unborn are protected.” “With the overturning of Roe versus Wade, this is a confirmation that we want to protect life and protect life in the womb, so we’re very excited about this decision from the Supreme Court to protect life. We have been overjoyed. I never thought I would see this in my lifetime for Roe versus Wade to be overturned. So, this is a joyous occasion. Many prayers answered.”
Roe v. Wade was first decided by the Supreme Court back in 1973.
