Local business women prepare special deliveries amid Coronavirus outbreak

It looked like the Coronavirus threat had shut down the celebration for ‘Party Girls of Gulfport,’ a business located on Courthouse Road that specializes in invitations, stationary, party decorations, and more.

But these local business women are thinking outside the box, working from home to continue providing services and much-needed joy to people here on the Coast, putting a twist on the way they do business.

Party Girls Owner Patti Schankin said, “This is the new norm. We are operating from home. We typically do invitations for weddings, showers, birthdays. We do a lot of décor for parties.”

But that’s all changed for now. With gatherings of more than ten people prohibited in the midst of the Coronavirus threat, business started to dry up several weeks ago for Schankin. She’s temporarily shut the doors to her party supply store, Party Girls, as she and her employees work from home.

Faced with this dilemma, these savvy local business women decided to take matters into their own hands and think outside the box. “When we realized the severity of this virus, we sat down and said hey, we’ve got to do something to generate some money and to keep things going. We came up with the idea of doing the garlands and attaching them to the mailboxes where we had our social distancing. People felt safe, and we did not have to come into contact with anyone.”

Birthdays, anniversaries, just a sweet pick-me-up, in this time of social distancing, raising people’s spirits and connecting has never been more important. “This morning, I delivered one and the lady started crying. She was so happy and touched that someone thought of her. It’s been a real blessing to us. So far the response has been very positive. People are very happy to look out their window and see us outside installing their garlands. It’s really taking off. We’re doing our part to try to stay afloat and to spread to some positive with all of this sadness and gloom going on now. We wanted to make things a little bit happier for people.”
