Local business owner gives back to coastal CASA programs

The owner of a well-known local restaurant is giving back to the South Mississippi CASA chapters.

Thomas Genin, owner of the Marina Cantina and Blind Tiger, presented matching donation checks to the leaders of the Hancock, Harrison, and Jackson County CASA chapters this morning in Bay St. Louis.

The Genin family chose to match dollar for dollar donations up to $5,000 per coastal CASA program, which helps support children along the entire Coast.

The coastal community answered the call and collectively donated $73,725, with each of the CASA programs on the Coast raising well over $5,000.  Genin said, “Seven years ago, my wife and I made a $5,000 donation to CASA and we came up with the idea the following year that we would challenge the community up to $5,000. So, we could match dollar for dollar up to five and that first year I think the total was around $17,000 and we have grown it significantly each year.”

The campaign raised more than $88,000 for the coastal CASA programs.
