Local blood donation centers looking for type-o donors

There is a severe blood shortage across the country and even here on the Coast we are feeling the effects.

Officials say that there has been a low donor turnout and usage has increased which has put a strain on the type-o blood inventory.

The Blood Center in Gautier normally likes to keep three days’ worth of blood in their inventory in case of an emergency, but right now they only have around two days’ worth, maybe even less.

Normally, blood centers see a decrease in blood donations around the summer time, but not this early in the season. Gina Necaise with the Blood Center said, “It is a great thing to do. It makes you feel good and it only takes a little bit of your time and your one donation could save three people’s lives.”

If you would like to donate you can make an appointment with the Blood Center in Gautier.
