Lizana Elementary School Mardi Gras Parade

Mardi Gras is a time to celebrate. Kids at Lizana Elementary School know how to do it right.
Today Lizana Elementary kindergartners rode home-made mini floats, dressed up in costumes, and threw beads at the school’s Mardi Gras parade. Students and parents stood in lines to watch the parade right outside the elementary school and caught candy and souvenirs.
Some of the students tell News 25 what their favorite things are about Mardi Gras. Student Bryson Gaazir said, “It’s fun because you get a lot of beads, it’s good for these kids out here and you’ll get a lot of souvenirs and cool stuff.” Student James Rines said, “Spending time with our family and catching beads.”
Student Mariah Northrup said, “Every year during Mardi Gras we have a cook out at my cousin’s house. It’s really fun. I like being able to spend time with my family and friends and stuff.”
The kindergartners picked a variety of different themes for their parade costumes. Some of them included ‘If you give a mouse a cookie,’ pirates, and future careers.
