Little Free Library opens at Crossroads Elementary

It was an exciting day for book lovers at Crossroads Elementary in Gulfport as they officially opened their brand new Little Free Library.

High school carpentry students from around Harrison County came together with the Rotary Club of Gulfport-Orange Grove to build six of these libraries at different elementary schools.

The Little Free Library is a neighborhood book exchange program aimed at increasing access to books by readers of all ages and backgrounds. Sixth grader Carl Handshaw said, “It makes people read better and how they can get a better education of reading. It helps me with reading because they have one of my favorite books in there that I like. I like football and basketball and they had a basketball book and I am going to read it when I get home.”

The completed libraries have been installed at Lyman Elementary, Lizana Elementary, and Harrison Central Elementary.
