Litter for Lattes: beautification program in Ocean Springs

‘Litter for Lattes’ is an idea created by the District Coffee Company and the City of Ocean Springs to reward those who pick up trash in the city with free coffee.

The District Coffee Company Owner Megan Miller got the idea from walking around the downtown Ocean Springs area. She saw a lot of litter on the ground and thought about what she could do to help as a small business owner.

To participate, all you have to do is bring in a bag of trash and put it in the designated bins at the shop. You can also post a picture of yourself picking up litter using the #litterforlattes and tag The District Coffee Company and the Ocean Springs Chamber.

If you do that, a free caffeine boost is in your future, along with doing your part to help keep Ocean Springs clean. “If you see it, pick it up. I think one thing is getting other people involved obviously helps because there is a way more little than there is people probably here. So, it is just kind of a happy thing to do. Get the kids involved, get your family involved, get out and help the community.”

The City of Ocean Springs, along with The District, hopes this will boost other businesses in the city to start similar campaigns of their own with incentives to pick up their community.
