Lightning Likely Caused House Fire in Pass Christian
Fire officials say everything indicates a lightning strike was the cause. There is very little left of the structure of the house. Firefighters arrived on the scene around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon and the flames were so large, the fire raged on for several hours. Fire officials tell News 25 because the fire was so large, it was difficult to reach the hidden fire inside the walls and the attic.
Pat Sullivan, Harrison County Fire Marshal, says, “The difficulty in this fire is that there was so much fire and it was between floors and walls, that it was hard fire to get to. The other problem that we had, of course, was it was an extensive fire and we started to have parts of the house collapsing, which made it very dangerous.”
The house was set to be sold in just a few days. Fortunately, the owners had already moved their furniture and other belongings out.
