Legislators To Work On Road Funding

State lawmakers will head back to Jackson in less than a month to finish the state budget.

Their work will include funding the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
M-DOT’s commissioner says our roads and bridges are crumbling and has projected it will take about 400-million dollars per year over an eight year period to get infrastructure projects back on track.

But, lawmakers have yet to come to an agreement of how to secure that funding…something that will be hashed out in June’s special session.
While at a post legislative briefing at the Golden Nugget, lawmakers weighed in on some of the options they’re considering.
Lawmakers tell News 25, a short term funding mechanism will likely be secured in June’s special session and they will consider something more long term next year.
