Legislators Continue Meetings
Discussion about Mississippi state taxes and spending continue between state lawmakers, but the two sides don’t exactly see eye to eye. During meetings in Jackson, a group made up mostly of republicans looked for ways to trim the budget. On the other side, democrats heard from a researcher who recommended Medicaid expansion and more education spending to close the gap between the rich and the poor. This isn’t the first time this week education was on the table for both sides. On Tuesday, state republicans said want to re-evaluate the Mississippi adequate education program by spending more money on students rather than administrators. Yesterday, democrats said they would obviously support that change, but question what that formula would even look like.
