Legislative session preview from District 49 elect

The 2018 Mississippi Legislative session gets underway this coming Tuesday.
District 49 Senate Elect Joel Carter will be sworn in right before it starts. Carter won the District 49 Senate seat with 52 percent of the votes as of last week’s election. Carter has been preparing to represent the residents of Harrison County in Jackson next.
Carter’s big focus for the upcoming session is state education, public safety surrounding the state’s opioid epidemic and building the Gulf Coast’s economy. “I think it’s extremely advantageous to really focus on working with the Coast delegation. I think historically we have a lot of conflicting personalities there and my background with hospitality management, that’s one thing I was always able to bring to the table to get different people from different backgrounds to work as a team.”
The 2018 regular session of the Mississippi Legislature starts at noon Tuesday. News 25 will have a reporter in Jackson to give you the latest from the state capital.
