Law Enforcement Conference

Imagine trying to weave through large crowds on a motorcycle and not make one mistake.
This is the pressure motor officers constantly feel, which is why these obstacle courses are set up in D’Iberville.
The week long law enforcement conference is in South Mississippi to allow officers from across the state to sharpen their skills. There are also K-9 demos where officials judge the distance of the leap and speed of the K-9.
Officials tell News 25 no matter how long you have been in law enforcement you see something different every day. Corporal Mark Hodges with Jackson Police Department said, “Routine means repetitive. It means you have the expectations that this is going to be quick, easy and onto the next one. We want to change the way they think. We want to change the mentality of what they do every day. I say all the time when I’m teaching and instructing that if today is a comfortable day on the motorcycle, it’s a day you shouldn’t ride.”
In addition to motor training and K-9 demos, officers also take three second classes where they learn the importance of initial contact with suspects.
This year the Scarlet Pearl is hosting the Mississippi Law Enforcement Association Conference.
