Lavon Capers leaving Vancleave to be new Resurrection Catholic head coach

For the second day in a row, a local high school football coach is switching programs to another school on the Gulf Coast.

After 21 years at Vancleave, Lavon Capers is retiring from the school district and moving over to Resurrection Catholic. Capers will be taking over for Scott Sisson in 2019 and tells News 25 it definitely wasn’t an easy decision to leave.

As head man of the Eagles, Capers will be working under Athletic Director Johnny Olsen who served as his baseball coach at Pascagoula.

Capers will finish out the spring semester at Vancleave, but says he’ll be working with Resurrection as much as he can during the off-season.

Capers goes on to tell News 25 “I really have enjoyed 21 good years there. It’s been great for me and my family and I’ll have nothing but good memories. As far as the new challenge, I think it’s definitely going to be a challenge to live up to the standard Coach Sisson set there over the last few years and our goal is do even better.”
