Last minute preps for students before tomorrow

It’s back to the books for kids in Jackson County tomorrow.
After hosting ‘meet your teacher day’ at Oak Park Elementary School in Ocean Springs, teachers are putting the final touches on their classrooms and getting ready to welcome students back tomorrow. Today, families were dropping off school supplies for teachers to sort at Oak Park Elementary.
Teachers and kids told News 25 how they feel about the first day of school. Second grade Teacher Pamela Everitt said, “All summer I’ve been getting plans ready, activities ready, just all excited for a great year and all the things that are going to happen from now until May.”
Third grader Abby Mellinger said, “I’m excited to see my friends and I’m also excited to play on the playground and I’m excited to have fun. (What about getting to bed early?) No, I’m not excited for that.”
Teachers do recommend a good night’s sleep before the first day of school. They also suggest packing lunches the night before, making sure backpacks are fully stocked and setting alarms 15 minutes early.
