Last Minute Holiday Shopping Week Begins

It’s no secret that not everyone plans ahead of time when it comes to holiday shopping.
With Christmas less than a week away, shoppers in downtown Ocean Springs were on the fast track today, trying to hit the holiday deals and check some items off their gift lists.
Some local shop owners tell News 25 this week is their busiest time of the year and some of them have had to call in extra staff to keep up with customers.
Michelle Weekley is a visitor from Atlanta spending Christmas on the Coast. She says she came to shop downtown because the holiday rush these local shops get doesn’t come close to what bigger places draw in. She said, “You think about people. ‘Oh, this reminds me of my friend Sherry.’ So, I think you can really personalize your gifts when you shop local in a small store.”
Blessons Sales Manager Brigitte Beaugez-Forbes said, “We’ve been really busy. Actually, it’s picked up a lot. We’ve had the sip and shop on Thursday night and that was great, third Thursday of every month. It’s wonderful for people to come out too. Now we’re just kicking it up in gear, it is cold and people are shopping.”
Employees at Blessons Boutique say their busiest day of the year for shoppers is Christmas Eve. They stay open until 5:30 for last minute shoppers.
