A Nepalese airport official said Monday that a passenger plane crashed as it landed at Kathmandu airport, prompting a massive emergency response.
It wasn’t immediately clear if there were fatalities. Clouds of thick smoke could be seen rising from the Bangladeshi plane, which was on a field at the edge of the airport.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of airport policy, said the flight was arriving from Dhaka, Bangladesh.
A spokesman from Tribhuvan International Airport told The Independent that it appeared the plane careened off the runway while landing. It crashed onto a nearby football field, the report said.
The plane could reportedly hold up to 78 passengers. No other details were immediately available.
