Lantern release for Abby Bosarge

Warriors known as Abby’s Army came together for Abby Bosarge’s funeral and ended the day with a lantern release on the beach in Bosarge’s hometown of Pass Christian.

The 18-year-old, whose story inspired people across the nation, died last Thursday after battling leukemia for over a year.

Family, friends, and all those who supported the teen throughout her life were welcome to light a lantern as a celebration of Bosarge’s life.

Several of Bosarge’s teammates showed up in their Pass Christian or Gulf Coast Monarchy jerseys as a tribute to Bosarge and her outstanding athletic career. Gulf Coast Monarchy teammate Jenny Williams said, “The best way to play for Abby is give it everything you have. Show up. Always show up and give 110% on and off the field. Be kind. Represent your jersey, whether it was a Monarchy jersey or a Pass Christian jersey, Abby always represented the jersey and represented this community.”

In her honor, a scholarship fund has been set up in Bosarge’s name at Pass Christian High School. The Abigail Bosarge Iconic Character Scholarship will be given to seniors who ‘live like Abby.’
