Lady Bulldogs draw school record No.2 seed in NCAA Tournament
The Mississippi State women’s basketball team has officially arrived as a national force having recorded its best regular season in program history. Tonight, they were rewarded as such on selection Monday.
The Lady Bulldogs will be a number two seed in this year’s NCAA tournament, yet another program best. They draw a first round match up against 15 seed Troy. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m. on Friday on ESPN2.
MSU had a straight shot at being one seed back in February before losing three of its final five games. That doesn’t diminish the moment of hearing their name called at tonight’s watch party.
Mississippi State Head women’s basketball Coach Vic Schaefer said, “Excited about playing, I hate that we’ve got to play on a Friday afternoon at 1:30. But last year we had 5,100, I’m wanting 7,500 or 8,000. I’m going to have to send out that letter again excusing everybody from the office early, but I’ll be glad to do that.”
Mississippi State Guard Dominique Dillingham said, “”It’s an amazing feeling just because we’ve worked so hard for this moment, and we’ve worked so hard for that 2-seed. And just to know that we’re going to play in front of our fans again.”
Mississippi State Forward Breanna Richardson said, “This is what we all worked for. To finally see it come to play, finally go to the postseason, you realize it’s a new season, and if we want to go get a ring we’ve got to go get it.”
Per the usual, UConn is the number one overall seed in the field of 64, joined by Notre Dame, Baylor and South Carolina as the other one seeds.
