King Cake sales are up
The Cheeky Monkey Bakery in Biloxi just sold more than 300 king cakes this morning and owner Jennifer Noble says it is a sign of life getting back to normal.
The order came from Hunter MMA, based in D’Iberville, as the youth organization partnered with the bakery so its members could pre-sell cakes to raise money.
So far this carnival season, the bakers at Cheeky Monkey have made about 3,000 pounds of king cake dough.
News 25 went out there to ask, why are these king cakes on the rise? Noble said, “Even though we’re still in COVID and things still haven’t returned to the new normal yet, I think people are just ready to get out, people are ready to spend time with friends and family. Over the last two years we’ve realized how important it is to spend time with friends and family. As much as we love social media and what it does for us so that we can keep in touch with everybody, it’s that one-on-one interaction that we really crave and need.”
In lieu of plastic babies, the bakery is putting plastic monkeys in its cakes to celebrate its tenth anniversary.
