Kids Fire Academy Camp in Biloxi
Forty-five kids are well on their way to becoming firefighters thanks to the Kids Fire Academy Camp.
The Biloxi Fire Department has been host to the camp for seven years now. Kids ages seven to 12 practice spraying an extinguisher on a live fire, learn how to use the hose, and navigate through a smoke house.
While many were having fun and meeting new friends throughout the week, firefighters hope they always remember these life-saving lessons. Academy Attendee Grace Sigman said, “If your house did catch on fire then you need to know what to do so you won’t get hurt.”
Academy Attendee Gabriella Lopez said, “I’m really looking forward to seeing my friends for the last few days and I’ve just had so much fun here.”
Biloxi Fire Deputy Chief Vincent Payne said, “I hope they just practice this life safety stuff they’ve learned this week and take it through, teach it to people in their community, teach their family members, and I just hope they practice this through life.”
The Kids Fire Academy is typically held every year in the month of June.
