Kayak Dock at Ocean Springs Harbor

A project that’s been in the works for years has finally been completed at the Ocean Springs Harbor.
As part of the ongoing construction and improvement of the area, a floating kayak dock, which is accessible to the handicapped, has been installed. The dock floats so that changing tide levels won’t affect a disabled kayaker’s ability to launch or retrieve their vessel. The dock can also be moved into sheltered waters to prevent damage during storms.
Ocean Springs Mayor Connie Moran said, “We think it is key. We’ve been wanting to have a kayak launch in Ocean Springs now for about five years. We work closely with the county and the harbor commission. As you can see the county has built these new boat ramps and the city has had all of its tidelands grants funding to work with the county and the harbor commission for a new harbor, new look, new parking.”
The floating dock took engineers less than a week to install and is now open to the public.
