Jump Rope for Heart
Dozens of students at Pecan Park Elementary in Ocean Springs broke out their jump ropes this morning.
The students kicked off Healthy Heart Month by introducing ‘Jump Rope for Heart.’ The fundraiser is put on by the American Heart Association. The program teaches kids about healthy hearts and doing good for others at the same time.
Students will also be raising money for the American Heart Association throughout the month. American Heart Association Youth Marketing Program VP Brett Jackson said, “We have a rich tradition here for ‘Jump Rope for Heart’ and what we are trying to do with these students is teach them how to make the healthy choice become the natural choice. ‘Jump Rope for Heart’ teaches them how to save lives, teaches them how to help students with special hearts, adults with special hearts, take care of their own hearts because one of the biggest heart healthy components to any student is being physically active. If we can give them sixty minutes of physical activity on a daily basis we are doing our part.”
The Ocean Springs School District Facebook page will have healthy tips each day.
