Jordan Mitchell’s Southern Miss journey

Heading into 2017, one of the deepest position groups on the Southern Miss football team is wide receiver. A big piece of that puzzle is expected to be a player that hasn’t taken a snap in over a year.
A sophomore on the field, but a senior in the classroom, Jordan Mitchell has a rather unique story. Out of high school, he took a grey shirt to delay academic enrollment at USM and then last year took a medical redshirt for a bulging disc in his back.
That leaves 2015 as Mitchell’s lone season in uniform which puts the rest of his time as a Golden Eagle in perspective. “I’d definitely say it’s been a blessing just being able to come out and compete again. I mean you learn a lot from getting something taken away from you. Sometimes you take it for granted and once it’s taken away, you just realize how special it is and how big of an opportunity you get. So I’m just blessed to be able to come back out here and compete with my teammates.”
As a freshman, Mitchell hauled in seven passes for 105 yards and a touchdown. Right now, he’s pushing the starter, Isaiah Jones, for significant playing time at wideout.
