Jon Nass named new Port of Gulfport CEO
After an eight-month long process, the Mississippi State Port of Authority Board of Commissioners named Jon Nass as the new CEO and executive director of the Port of Gulfport.
Nass comes from the Maine Port Authority where he helped develop northern New England’s only container terminal and secured tens of millions of dollars in funding for the port and rail infrastructure.
He also led efforts on a public-private partnership to construct Maine’s only publicly available climate-controlled storage.
In addition to his port experience, Nass was the deputy commissioner at the Maine Department of Transportation where he worked as a senior policy advisor.
Nass tells News 25 he is excited to help expand the Mississippi Gulf Coast. John Rester, a commissioner on the board, says he is happy to welcome him. Nass said, “I’m very knowledgeable in how to market, how to grow volumes, and how to take infrastructure and realize its full potential. So, really what I am looking at is how do we take what’s here and that’s the hard infrastructure, it’s the great relationships and maximize it and do a little better.”
Rester said, “He has a unique and diverse background and we are very excited about him coming and leading the port into what we hope is a very successful future.”
Nass’ tentative start date at the Port of Gulfport is June 1st, 2021.
