Jay Hopson Gives Props to Southern Miss Faithful
The driving force behind any successful college football program is always a strong fan base. Saturday, the Southern Miss faithful got the chance to show off just how much they love their Golden Eagles.
Saturday’s New Orleans Bowl drew a crowd upwards of 35,000, the most since 2013 when the game featured two teams from Louisiana, those being ULL and Tulane.
Of course, there was plenty of red to compliment the black and gold, but it’s no secret that Conference USA’s leading fan base the last two years travels really well. “Just coming through Eagle Walk from game one all the way until the last game of the season, our fans have been there. We knew it was big when we couldn’t get the bus out of the Hilton. The fans were blocking the street way, so we were like ‘man, it’s going to be a good crowd tonight.’ It took us 15 minutes just to get out of the hotel on the bus. So the fans were just amazing and just want to thank that Southern Miss family and Southern Miss fan base just for putting all that gold in the stands and they don’t know how much we appreciate it,” said Coach Jay Hopson.
Saturday’s game drew about 5,000 more fans than any of the previous four times USM had played in the New Orleans Bowl.
