Jalen Williams found guilty of capital murder in 2017

The Mississippi Court of Appeals has affirmed a guilty verdict in the 2017 murder trial of a Gulfport man.

Jalen Williams was convicted of capital murder in the death of Lamont Hayes, whom Williams and his co-defendant Rashad Johnson were attempting to rob in July 2014 at Hayes’ Gulfport home.

Johnson pleaded guilty after confessing that he and Williams went to Hayes’ home to rob him. Williams pleaded not guilty, ending in a trial where a jury found him guilty of capital murder.

After filing a motion to appeal, the court upheld the decision today to sentence Williams to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
