Jackson County Utility Authority addressing possible ‘inaccurate billing’
The Jackson County Utility Authority has suspended late payments, penalties and service disconnections while it tries to determine why customers are receiving higher than normal bills.
The Utility Authority posted on its Facebook Page on Saturday afternoon that it had been made aware of “potentially inaccurate billing” for many of its customers.
JCUA said it did modify its water and sewer rates with the October billing, but the majority of comments it has received are about higher-than-normal water usage.
One person commented on the JCUA post that her bill showed 960 gallons of usage from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Another said her bill showed 29,000 gallons of use for a family of three not home for a majority of the day.
The utility authority said it hopes to have a resolution to the issue by the end of the week.
“Once an answer is found, we will ensure that JCUA’s customers are informed, along with providing a plan for how any potential adjustments or corrections will be handled.”
