Jackson County Supervisors Happy with Judge’s Decision in SRHS Settlement

Jackson County supervisors say they’re happy with U.S. District Judge Louis Guirola’s decision to sign off on a settlement for Singing River Health System’s retirement plan.
Jackson County Supervisor Troy Ross says he’s glad it’s finally getting to a point where this situation is going to be resolved.
Today, the supervisors made a decision to hire financial services firm Raymond James to come up with a strategic comprehensive plan for how the hospital should be structured from here on out. “Should it solely be exactly how it is or should it be merged with someone else, what it ought to be. Should it be a lease? We’re just going to put all those options on the table and it will give us the opportunity to work with the board of trustees and determine what our hospital’s going to look like in order to make it survivable for the next 20, 30, 40 years,” said Ross.
Jackson County was released from any liability as per the settlement. Lawyers for more than 200 retirees who oppose the settlement plan to appeal Judge Guirola’s decision.
