Jackson County Sheriff’s Department searching for man who threatened hotel employees in St. Martin

Jackson County sheriff’s investigators are looking for a man who assaulted a St. Martin hotel manager at gunpoint and threatened his employees.

Deputies were called to the Red Roof Inn on Cook Road around 6:30 Monday night, May 24th. Sheriff Mike Ezell says John McGraw Jr. of Matthews, North Carolina accused the employees of locking him out of his room when the key wouldn’t work.

When deputies got to the hotel, the employees told them McGraw was in his room. Deputies tried to make contact with him and when that failed, the Emergency Services Unit was activated.

The hotel guests and staff on the first floor were evacuated from the building. After many unsuccessful attempts to talk to McGraw, deputies got in the room and he wasn’t there.

Sheriff Ezell says 58-year-old McGraw has previous assault charges in Indiana. Once he is in sheriff’s custody, he faces aggravated assault charges.

If you have any information on this case, call the sheriff’s department at 228-769-3036 or Crime Stoppers at 877-787-5858.
