Jackson County sheriff opposes allowing larger trucks

In Jackson County, the sheriff is calling on Congress to oppose efforts to allow bigger trucks.
A handful of the country’s largest trucking companies, including Fed Ex and UPS, are lobbying Congress to require every state to allow even longer double trailer trucks, the so-called “double 33s” which are 17 feet longer than today’s conventional single trailer trucks.
In a statement, Sheriff Mike Ezell said “These trucks are simply too dangerous to be on our highways here in Mississippi. We are calling on the Mississippi Federal Delegation to vote against any increase in truck size or weight.”
