Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell expected to announce run for Congress
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell plans to announce plans to challenge Rep. Steven Palazzo for the 4th District congressional seat next year.
Ezell, a Republican, will join Carl Boyanton as the only other declared candidate in the race. Palazzo has not yet declared.
Ezell, 58, plans a series of stops across the district on Wednesday to formally announce his candidacy for the 2022 elections. He will begin in Pascagoula at the Jackson County Courthouse and also stop off at the Harrison County jail in Gulfport.
The sheriff, who has held his office since winning a special election in 2014, has more than 40 years experience in law enforcement. Palazzo has been in office since 2011, when he unseated Gene Taylor.
Mississippi Today first broke the news that Ezell intends to run.
