Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell donates van to Calhoun County

Jackson County Sheriff’s Department received information that another Mississippi sheriff’s department was in need of a new van so Sheriff Mike Ezell jumped into action to make sure they were taken care of.

Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office was limited on what big-ticket items that could purchase. The sheriff’s office was in need of a new van for the inmate work program.

The van they were using had over 400,000 miles on it and purchasing a van was not in the budget for the county this year.

So, Calhoun County reached out to other sheriff’s departments and Sheriff Ezell transferred a 2012 van with only 64,000 miles on it for $10.

Sheriff Ezell tells News 25 it is important to reach out and help other departments. “You know, since I have been in office. I really try to bond with a lot of agencies up and down the Coast and now statewide. So, I was very pleased to be able to help them out and that’s doing a good thing for their community and I think a good gesture from Jackson County.”

Sheriff Ezell says he hopes Calhoun County gets good use out of the new van.
