Jackson County sheriff discusses increase in crime in St. Martin
John Ledbetter is the new sheriff of Jackson County since Mike Ezell was elected to Congress.
There has been an increase in crime in St. Martin since Ledbetter came into his new role on January 3rd, including vehicle theft, deaths, a shooting, and more.
Over the last several weeks, there’s been more of a police presence in the St. Martin community since some crime took place just days apart.
Ledbetter worked for Ezell for about eight years as chief deputy. His transition from chief deputy to sheriff has been keeping him busy. “I think as sheriff I get the most enjoyment in Jackson County from helping others, helping the citizens, helping those in our department, our law enforcement partners to accomplish a mission. To go out with a purpose and get things done.”
If any residents in Jackson County sees a crime occur, they are encouraged to call 911 or the sheriff’s department at 228-769-3063.
