Jackson County prepares for wintry weather

Road crews and law enforcement agencies in Jackson County spent the day preparing roads for chilly weathers.

Over in Pascagoula, the 14th Street overpass was shut down at 7 p.m. as a precaution and crews salted the Pascagoula High-Rise Bridge along with other bridges in the county.

Officials with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department say they don’t anticipate road closures, but ask people to stay off the roads as a general precaution.

First responders remain ready to respond to calls through the night, though response times may be slower depending on conditions. Richard Palmer with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department said, “It slows our times because we have to worry about our safety as well as the safety of the general public in responding to calls for service and responding to accidents.”

If you have to travel within Jackson County, you’re asked to proceed with extreme caution over the bridges.
