Jackson County fire departments hosted free hand sanitizer giveaway

Merchant and Marine Bank and Family Frozen Food partnered with the cities of Jackson County to lend a helping hand during the pandemic.

The local businesses purchased 55 gallon drums of hand sanitizer and gave one to each municipality. The fire departments were tasked with distributing the sanitizer to the community.

From 12 to 3 p.m., residents could drive up and get a container of free hand sanitizer.

Ocean Springs Fire Chief Derrick McCoy says they are always happy to serve the community. “Anytime that the fire department can contribute back to its community, in this case it was due to a couple of businesses stepping up and allowing us to do that, which is great. But anytime we have an opportunity to do that and provide just another service to the citizens, it’s something we definitely want to do.”

Due to the high volume of traffic on Highway 90, the Ocean Springs Fire Department had to begin at 11 a.m. They were out of sanitizer before 2 p.m.
