Jackson County Animal Shelter Open House

In Gautier this afternoon, some lucky animals had the chance to find a new home.
Jackson County Animal Shelter extended their hours today, hosting an open house adoption event in an attempt to find homes for more of the animals they are housing while generating awareness of animal overpopulation in the county.
The first 25 adoptions were granted free of charge and a silent auction was held with all proceeds going to the animal shelter.
News 25 spoke with Adoption Coordinator Maridee Mallette about this open house event. “I know we’ve had 12 adoptions, the free ones and eight paid for adoptions. We doing good with the raffles. I can’t wait to see what’s going on. Every day Monday through Friday, 10 to 4, Saturday 2 to 10. It’s $50. Right now, we’re doing cats for $25 because we’re overpopulated with cats. I’m trying to raise awareness of overpopulation in Jackson County.”
Mallette plans on making the open house adoption an annual event for the shelter.
