Italian Immigrant & Army Veteran Honored in Ocean Springs

The City of Ocean Springs hosted a ceremony to honor a local hero Friday night.

Adelchi Anthony Pilutti is a retired Army command sergeant who was born in Italy, immigrated to America, and joined the Army in 1941. The longtime Ocean Springs resident was detained in California after Pearl Harbor. Upon his release, he joined the 82nd Airborne Paratroopers and jumped on D-Day in Normandy. He received a Bronze Star for his service. Friday night, Ocean Springs held a ceremony for friends and family in the community to honor him.

Pilutti says, “I’m just flabbergasted. It’s great. I did not expect anything like this here. They told me they were having a reception. I didn’t know it was going to be like this. I had no idea, none at all. I’m honored.”

Originally from Italy, Pilutti also received his United States citizenship after his duties in the military. He says that was the proudest day of his life.
