Island View Casino expansion opens

As of today, doors are officially open on the new beach front casino expansion at Island View in Gulfport.

Gulfport’s only casino upped the ante Thursday as Island View owners, Terry Green and Rick Carter, cut the ribbon on the $75 million beach front expansion. It’s yet another milestone for the casino and the local owners who laid the foundation years ago. “It’s kind of a dream come true. Every time we open a new phase it’s just a great feeling. We hope we bring more people in, that’s always the goal and keep this market going in the state, we just keep reinventing our self. We got to keep building bigger and better projects. It’s just competition. It’s just the things you got to do,” said Green.

The new south side is completely smoke free and has a 43,000 square foot gaming floor, 900 new machines, and 18 table games as well as six new dining facilities, not to mention there is an expansive beach view with floor-to-ceiling windows surrounding the entire building. Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes said, “Anything that showcases our city, our Coast, our region, and brings people in and gives them a new experience for many and unexpected experiences, that is very positive. They will keep coming back. You know, we are about making ambassadors every day and so this is going to be another piece of that puzzle.”

After the state gaming commission voted Thursday to make sports betting legal in casinos across Mississippi, Island View owners now have another project on the horizon. “I think it is going to be tremendous. I mean, it’s very exciting. We are in the process of waiting to get the regulations and I am glad to hear that they passed it. We will get the regulations and we will continue working on it. We have plans to do one on the north side and also one on the south side,” said Green.
