Isiah Fredericks Community Center hosts drive-thru Halloween bash over the weekend

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV) — The Isiah Fredericks Community Center hosted their Halloween bash, but this year the trick or treating was a little different.

Dressed as jokers and ninja turtles, community members set up a drive-thru for trick or treaters.

Passing out candy for anyone who stopped by, abiding by coronavirus safety guidelines.

The community center gave away pre-prepared bags of candy and chips and wore gloves to keep others safe.

Wearing masks on Halloween is more fun than usual, but this year they serve as safety for others.

Kent Jones, Supervisor for District 4 Harrison County Board of Supervisors, said “Put some smiles on some kids face. We realize that they been having these costomes probably 3 or 4 weeks and they don’t understand completly all of the chaos and disorder that goes around because of hurricane, all they know is come Halloween I want to put my costume on. So we wanted to make that happen for them. It’s a drive thru. of course all the kids want to get out and take a picture with superman sometimes and we’ll do that. But for the most part everything is safe everybody is practicing their social distancing and wearing their masks so it’s a good thing and we’re happy to be able to be apart of this.”

The Isiah Fredericks Community Center looks forward to hosting their Halloween bash next year and will continue reaching out to the community to serve it well.
