Initial Court Appearance for Jackson County Murder Suspect

The Moss Point man accused of killing a Vancleave mother on Saturday faced a Jackson County judge for his initial appearance in court this afternoon.
Judge T. Larry Wilson set a $250,000 bond for 32-year-old Brandon Smith. Smith is charged with murder after authorities found the body of 30-year-old Elizabeth Corene Jones at the end of her driveway on Ridgeland Road. The victim’s boyfriend and father were in court as the judge handed down Smith’s bond.
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell tells News 25 he’s proud of the way his deputies, along with Gautier police, quickly made an arrest after Jones’ death.
Smith’s preliminary hearing is set for February 13th.
No motive for Jones’ death has been released. Authorities say after an autopsy in Jackson tomorrow they should be able to release the cause of death.
