Influx of animal intake at Jackson County Animal Shelter
The Jackson County Animal Shelter has a message for pet owners: spay and neuter your animals.
The shelter took in over 400 animals in May and then about an additional 100 dogs and cats came in this past week. The shelter can only hold so many animals in the cage space they have in Gautier.
Officials in Jackson County tell News 25 they do their best by holding adoption events, but residents need to know the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. Adoption Coordinator Maridee Mallette said, “It controls the population. That’s what we’re here to do. We’re here to take care of them. We have to control the population. If we weren’t here just imagine what it would look like out there. So spay and neuter because there’s litters born every day all over the world, it’s terrible. It’s just too many.”
The shelter is located off Highway 90 in Gautier. To see the pets that are up for adoption head to the Jackson County Animal Shelter Gautier, Mississippi Adoptable Pets Facebook page.
