Independent Gov. Candidate to Hold Press Conference Before Gubernatorial Debate

We are now less than a month away from electing a new governor in Mississippi and both major party candidates are set to debate for the first time later this week.

Democrat Jim Hood and Republican Tate Reeves will take the stage in their first, of what could be multiple, debates on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. on WXXV-NBC.

The debate will be take place at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) in Hattiesburg.

While Hood and Reeves are the only candidates participating in the live debate, a third-party candidate, David Singletary, who is running as an Independent, also plans to be in attendance.

Singletary plans to hold a press conference at USM’s Shoemaker Square at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, just two hours before the televised debate is set to begin.

Singletary was among the candidates News 25 today covered back on August 1st at the Neshoba County Fair. Topping his political agenda, Singletary wants to legalize cannabis both on the medical and recreational side and to enforce term limits.

The general election is Tuesday, November 5th.
