Inaugural Black Entrepreneur Expo

It takes a village is the tagline for the hosts of the inaugural Black Entrepreneur Expo, the Melanin Village in Gulfport.
The Melanin Village is a group of three African American veterans who want to help showcase the black entrepreneurs of Mississippi. The expo is the start of a monthly pop-up shop to serve as a platform for the Gulf Coast black owned businesses to market their merchandise and goods. Melanin Village Committee Member Lawrence Robinson said, “There’s a lot of clatter in and around the Gulf Coast and across the state of Mississippi as well too that don’t see enough black entrepreneurs and that a lot of black people don’t have businesses or are not starting businesses and just to tell people that ‘hey you can come out and shop with these individuals because they are here.’ So they could then in return put money back into the community and open another business. It’s about networking and economics.”
