Improvements on the way to Harrison County Fairgrounds

Big plans have been released for the Harrison County Fairgrounds.
The Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District (SMPDD) surveyed the fairgrounds and have released changes in a report they believe could be a roadmap for the fairgrounds to bring more money to the county.
Improvements are spread out over three phases. The first phase mostly addresses signage on the fairgrounds, as well as advertising ideas. Later phases of improvements include longer term projects like building an indoor arena at the fairgrounds. SMPDD Economic Workforce Development Director Allison Beasley said, “We think with an enclosed facility, which would be the granddaddy phase three of the plan, we would be able to draw more visitors, more overnight stays and basically increase the tax base to a greater extent in Harrison County.”
Beasley tells News 25 there is no timeline for these changes, but as the board finds money to use she hopes they will use it to make these improvements to the fairgrounds.
