Improvements Coming to Gulfport Sportsplex

Last year more than 80,000 people passed through the Gulfport Sportsplex. The City of Gulfport is hoping some new improvements to the facility will draw even more guests in this year.
Today, the Gulfport City Council voted to open up the bidding process to replace the sign with updated technology. The goal is to add LED lights and screens to attract the thousands of people who pass the Coast on I10. This was in addition to plans to bring two football fields and six baseball fields to the facility.
Chris Vignes with the City of Gulfport said, “Tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of people pass this on a regular basis. It’s kind of a welcome to Gulfport, welcome to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, as in it’s a billboard that’s going to showcase what’s happening at the sportsplex and gives the opportunity to have advertising from other venues also.”
The improvements to the sign are part of an ongoing eight and a half million dollar project.
