Impact of Fort Bayou drawbridge closure on local businesses in Ocean Springs

The Fort Bayou drawbridge in Ocean Springs is set to close mid-March from anywhere between 45 to 60 days.

Many headaches are anticipated as it is one of the city’s most used thoroughfares to and from the city.

For local business Fort Bayou Bait Shop, this closure could drastically impact business since they’re located right side the bridge.

Their busy season is from spring break until Labor Day Weekend. The closure will impact the first part of it. Fort Bayou Bait Shop Owner Greg Verges said, “The closing is coming and I’m right here. I don’t know whether I should cry or go, but I was told if the Coast Guard closes it, there’ll be no marine traffic either.”

Fort Bayou Bait Shop opened in 1985, the same year the existing draw bridge was built.
