IMMS Director Dr. Moby Solangi Appointed to Serve As Chair for Mississippi Sound Coalition

He’s been a familiar face if you’ve lived here in South Mississippi for any period of time-protector of marine life, the local environment, and most recently, one of the most vocal about the local impact on the unprecedented, back-to-back openings of Louisiana’s Bonnet Carre Spillway earlier this year.

Dr. Moby Solangi, President of the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies, has been appointed Chair of the Science Advisory Committee of the Mississippi Sound Coalition.

Appointed by the Harrison County Board of Supervisors, in his role as the new Chair of the Science Advisory Committee, he will advise Coalition members about natural science and social science research and issues that could affect the Mississippi Sound ecosystem and fisheries, tourism as well as the Coast way of life that depends on it.

Dr. Solangi is an alumnus of the University of Southern Mississippi, but has served as an adjunct professor at USM, MSU and LSU. He’s also published more than 50 scientific papers in professional journals.
